Welcome to Week 20 of my Pinspiration series!pinspiration banner 2 big

Before I get to this week’s topic, I thought I’d just let you know that if you hadn’t noticed, I totally dropped the ball last week.  No big reason, just got busy and distracted.  But I’m back on track this week to share some information and maybe a few personal observations as well.

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that last week I took off of work.  It was a nice staycation and allowed me to get some stuff done around the house.  One of the biggest projects on my list was to have a garage sale.  It’s been about five years since our last garage sale, but because I think I suffer with ‘Garage Sale Amnesia’ I always forget how much work it is to prep and have it.  So five years from now, if I still have this blog and you still read it, PLEASE – for the love of God, remind me of this blog post.  K?  Thanks!Smile

So since it had been a few years since my last garage sale and since blogging has really taken off in that period, I just knew that there were probably some great tips by all those great bloggers out there.  And since Pinterest is sort of a haven for bloggers (in my opinion) I decided to check there first.  And as luck would have it, I found a website with some really useful information.

I used many of Jen’s suggestions (signage, free box, etc.) and what started out as this-2012 05 17_5806

Turned into this!

You know, I am always amazed at what sells in a garage sale.  We had a couple of pieces of furniture that I figured would probably sell.  And they did.  But we also had four beautiful formal dresses of Kelsey’s that no one even really looked at which I thought was interesting.  Oh and the junk – people by junk.  I had four ratty looking old flower arrangements that some weird dude paid me full price for.  Shocking!  Probably my favorite thing though was the little gal on the last day that came right before we closed up shop.  I had put the glass pitcher of our burnt up blender and she squealed in delight when saw it.  Apparently they had just broken theirs.  How funny is that!  Garage Sale Serendipity!  Smile

Oh and here’s another little nugget of advice – turtleneck sweaters do not sell in Oklahoma in the middle of May.  Jut a little FYI.

Anyway, when it was all said and done, we made almost $350 – the best we’ve ever done!2012 05 18_5795

I will say this though, as helpful as Jen’s website was, some of the best tips I got were from my Mom and Carrie.  So next time you’re embarking on a big project, my advice is to go ahead and check Pinterest, but don’t forget to ask for advice from your momma or your BFF. Smile

Peace, Kelly
